The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Book #8 of 2021 was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and to say I wasn't a fan was an understatement. I am not one to poo poo anyone's hard work so this is painful to even type out but the characters in this book fell so flat for me. Usually I'd just chalk it up to not being my kind of book but I absolutely loved the details and writing style the author used to explain the circus, I just felt there wasn't any effort put into the actual characters. The storyline itself felt like there could have been much more entertaining parts but instead it felt heavy and bogged down. Without ruining it for anyone else I'll just leave it at that, but this is the first book I've struggled to finish since reading Harry Potter (so maybe it's just not my thing). If this had not been one of the book clubs picks I would have probably not finished it at all.

If this review makes you question reading it go check some others on goodreads. It seems it's an absolutely love or hate type of book. So you've got a 50/50 chance.
